How to choose the right wheel?
Select a ceramic sharpening wheel based on your intended use and the thickness of the skate blade. Aluminum oxide wheels are standard sharpening wheels, especially suitable for softer blades. Silicon carbide wheels, on the other hand, are suitable for all types of blades, including extra-hard ones. Note that silicon carbide wheels produce more dust during use than aluminum oxide wheels.

Guidelines for choosing the right grit
When selecting grit, consider the desired result: full profiling, basic sharpening, or fine finishing. Ceramic wheel grits range from 46 to 100. The lower the grit number, the coarser the wheel. Popular choices are 46–60 grit for profiling, 60 grit for basic sharpening, and 80–100 grit for achieving a very fine finish.

Diamond wheels are available in two grit levels. B64 is finer and suitable for more demanding applications. The coarser B252 wheel is ideal after outdoor or synthetic ice use or when changing the radius. It is highly durable and therefore especially popular in skate rental operations.
